Silhouette….

shadow woman hat

΅∼ ೋღ ღೋ     ∼΅

That was the day the sun stopped shining…

That was the day she realized she was dreaming…

Not living…

She was but a semblance of her former self…

An illusion created to protect…

Inevitably…

That very protection became self-induced isolation…

΅∼ ೋღ ღೋ     ∼΅

She had believed everything…

Trusted everyone…

Perhaps naivety reigned…

Perhaps….so very many things…

΅∼ ೋღ ღೋ      ∼΅

Falling into the very disillusionment that woke her to Life’s reality…

She welcomes this descent…

She knows it well…

She’s comfortable here surrounded by familiar phantoms…

All the disconsolate whispers…

Shadow’s silhouette casting the backdrop for a prior dream…

Antecedent of every hope, desire, aspiration…

 ΅∼ ೋღ ღೋ     ∼΅

She will not cry…

Not one tear…

For they are hers alone…

And only when she is alone will they appear…

  2. So sad and so well written. The fall into sadness, remembering the times of sadness as if they were comforting friend, preferring shadowy darkness to resplendent light, a cold, forlorn familiarity over sanguine expectations of hope.

I like the statement that she will not cry as it is what she sees as the norm. Thank you for sharing your talent again, Christina.

I think we all have times when we feel like this, but you manage to put into words the feelings to add colour to the shadows.

  4. Your first line leaves a lot to be speculated on, I like this thrust into the poem though, the words unsaid are as powerful as the words written. The photo gives nothing away either but it does neatly reflect your current reading habits of Fitzgerald(s), Hemingway et al.

There is a wonderful meshing of the fantasy and the brutal encroachment of reality although reality is not a bad thing always. Of course, slides into disillusionment can be arrested with time and hope, thoughts of what can and will be not thoughts of what is lost and the facade that people put up.

A crystal clear tear can be a release and not a sign of weakness…they can be shared also.

    • Such a wonderful compliment….”the words unsaid are as powerful as the words written” ….you know I love to add some enigmatic words/phrases! Tying in my current reading era as well…you notice everything (in a good way)…

It is true that disillusionment can be arrested with time and hope…time it would seem… is the healer of most everything. I very much liked your thoughts on ‘a crystal clear tear can be a release’….indeed it can. Once again your perspective and unique views are intriguing and so very appreciated. Thank you, ever so much for sharing your thoughts!

  7. Again, I love the way you use ellipsis. Here it provides a powerful suggestion of what goes unsaid, as if this character can only say as much as we see here. That there is really some greater darkness dancing underneath…and that really, what we see here is the light that breaking through phantoms and shadows. Magnificent.

    • Thank you so very much Iain! It truly is an honor for me to receive your thoughts….and your generous praise! I’ve not had anyone directly comment on my use of ellipsis, which I use for the exact intent you described! It has me smiling and happy that your insight and interpretation is as intended. I love to hint at emotions or thoughts…leaving it up to the reader to fill in with their own interpretations. It is incredibly fascinating for me to read each persons thoughts and impressions. Thank you again, so very very much!!
