The Power of Words…

“But words are things, and a small drop of ink,
Falling like dew, upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.”
~ George Gordon Byron ~

  Words…
Arranged just so…
Have incredible power…
To lift up…
To elicit joy…
To bring good news or bad…
To tear down walls or build them…
To heal or to hurt…
To empower or discourage…
To create love or hate…
Build trust or break it…
Words can change a persons life forever…one way or another…
Be oh so very careful with them…
They are fragile like glass and can shatter…destroy…
They can rebuild…rejoice…
Please…choose your words wisely…
Once said or written…can last forever…

  2. you hit it right on the mark, christina. i always believed that it is not the use of heavy words or complex sentences that make powerful prose or poetry, but rather simple, familiar words arranged so delicately in a sequence we’ve never seen before.

  3. And those are great words. It is so very true. With one of the most powerful being “trust” It can take years to build, but less than a word to destroy. I like Byron’s quote and also the image that you put with this post.

    • Mondrak, thank you!! I agree the most powerful is trust…and love. Trust is a most difficult one…so long to build, so quick to destroy. So so much appreciation for your sweet thoughts about the image and the quote…I do love the way Byron used his powerful words! 🙂 Hugs sweet friend!

      • Thank you 🙂

I have turned away before as I have stopped myself from saying something destructive. Something my ex-wife said to cut me to ribbons, and it’s something I will never forget. When the person I moved in with, called my daughter a slut (she was 12 at the time) that broke me.
“Sticks and stones may break my bones
but words can all destroy me”

I like your signature image you have as well.

        • They (whoever ‘they’ are) say it takes something like 100 positive words to combat 1 negative word. Sort of paraphrased that….I’m more sorry than I can say that you have been on that end of such ugly words.

I had a similar experience with my eldest (she was 13 at the time) involving my mother in law (big surprise) only just recently has the truth truly sunk in for my daughter and she is able to let it go. It rocked her world, the very foundation Duane and I had built for her. It was heartbreaking, no more than that.

One thing I know for sure is that when a parent loves their child…with unconditional love…even through the incredibly rough times…the child knows and heals and will come through. My eldest told me once that it was my love for her that has helped her…I never knew until recently.

While words hurt and can forever, love does help heal the wounds…there will be scars, but in the end there is always love.

I’m not sure if that helps, but it seems to me that you love your children with the kind of love that heals and that WILL make a difference!

Thank you for your sweet comment about the signature…I was experimenting with fonts 🙂 Hugs sweet friend!!

          • Thank you Christina. I know my daughter doesn’t talk about it, but she is very conscious about what she wears now. She will always ask me for my opinion as I will tell her what I think, and I will ask hers as she will do likewise. When I go clothes shopping, I will take her with me. I try to get them to talk to me as well so they can open up. I have been trying to get my daughter to have counselling as I know she is easily affected by things, and I know this week is as hard for her as it is for me, as my ex-wife confided in her before she left – telling a ten year old “I’m going to leave your dad but you can’t tell him” That was one of those turn away before saying something moments. I know the words that would have come out of my mouth would have been with so much vehemence, even the devil would have covered his ears.

What some people can do and say to children is more than disgraceful, it is bordering on evil, and sometimes crosses over it. I try to make my kids understand that I am more than their dad, I am their friend and confidant.

I didn’t realise you were old enough to have a child older then 13. I thought you were in your low to mid twenties.

You sound like your doing so many right things with your kids!! They will feel your love, it will never leave them! Keep being an awesome dad!!

I’m working on an email for you, some things I’m going to share here but not yet. I hope it further proves the healing power of love!!

As for my age…I’m fortunate, like my mom to not look my age &I did have my eldest young 😀 !! Of course that was a fantastic comment…thank you!!

  9. How true this post is Christina.
The power of words is underestimated sometimes.
That wrong word at the wrong time can destroy the person it is being said to, or make their day.
    I love you
    I hate you
When my Mum was in hospital recovering after her heart op,she had an episode of upset tummy, so I told the ward sister, who promptly removed my Mum from the ward ( to stop contmination and spread of any ” bug” ) and put her in a room on her own.
Her first words when I went to see her the next day were
” I hate you for putting me in this room”
I was absolutely devastated. I had to go out of the room for a bit, because I didn’t want her seeing how much those three words had hurt.
My wife had to come and see where I was. I think she might have had a word with Mum, because the first thing she did was apologise and of course I forgave her because she was my Mum, and she wasn’t very well, but those words hurt, and still do now when I think about it.
Another lovely entry Christina thank you 🙂
    keep safe keep well,
love n hugs and blessings too

    • Nick, thank you so much for sharing your story about your mum. I imagine that was more than very very difficult to handle. 😦 I can’t imagine, especially when you’re so close to the person to says something hurtful. I am glad that it was resolved, though deep hurt usually leaves a scar…sadly. I agree that the power of words is waaay underestimated!!

I had so so MUCH more to say about words I will probably visit this topic again in the future….having learned so much of their power, most especially these past few years.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences…I know it’s difficult to share the really tough ones. I do appreciate you sweet friend!!
      Take care of you!
Hugs and Love and Blessings ~ xoxo
